pages editing is the default WP functionality which isn't connected with the theme's files.
Try how a new added page can be edited. Try to work with page after the default theme's activation.
Check maybe some restrictions are done for your user type. There are different user types which can be not administrators or don't have rights to rewrite the pages etc

It is impossible to update the imported/demo pages or posts, you cannot update it says 403 forbidden, access to the resource on this server is denied.
